Wellness Exams

Why do cats need annual Wellness Exams?

Cats are stoic creatures and because of their biology, they're designed to mask signs of illness even from their owners.

Since our cats cannot speak to us, they cannot tell us if they feel unwell or have any other indicators of systemic illness. We need to examine them annually at minimum, as well as run age-specific screening tests to detect underlying disease processes before they become clinically apparent.

Outlined below are the recommendations you may receive based off your kitty's age and over all health during their annual wellness/semi-annual exam(s):

0-5 years

Every 12 months - Thorough physical Exam, vaccinations based off your kitty's lifestyle, FeLV/FIV testing, intestinal parasite check (fecal exam), prophylactic deworming, and pre-anesthetic blood-work as indicated.

5-7 years

Every 12 months - Thorough physical Exam, Adult Wellness Lab Profile (a blood test checking red and white blood cell counts and a more comprehensive internal organ screen) every other year, vaccinations and FeLV/FIV testing based off lifestyle, prophylactic deworming, and an intestinal parasite check (fecal exam).

7-10 years

Every 6-12 months - Thorough physical Exam, Senior Wellness Lab Profile/Renal Profile (comprehensive internal organ screen including Blood Pressure, Thyroid testing, electrolytes, complete blood cell counts, and urinalysis +/- urine culture), vaccinations and FeLV/FIV testing based off lifestyle, prophylactic deworming, and intestinal parasite check (fecal exam).

10+ years

Every 6 months - Physical Exam, Senior Wellness Lab Profile/Renal Profile (comprehensive internal organ screen including Blood Pressure, Thyroid testing, electrolytes and red and white cell counts, urinalysis, +/- urine culture), vaccinations and FeLV/FIV testing based off lifestyle, prophylactic deworming, and intestinal parasite check (fecal exam).

Some disease processes and medications require follow up lab periodically, no matter the age of your cat.
